EBONY
Ebony first started treatment in February 2010 for a splint that would not heal on her front left leg. Ebony did weeks of shockwave therapy for minor tears in both front leg suspensories. Ebony would improve a little and then get worse to the point that she was noticeably lame on both fronts.
In September of 2010 it was discovered that the splint bone on the inside of her front right leg was fractured. On September 10, 2010 Ebony underwent surgery on both front legs. While performing the surgery Dr. Ryan Shoemaker from Delaney Veterinary Services, discovered that during the healing process Ebony’s body had created so much bone that it looked like she had two splint bones on both front legs. Plus while healing, the tears in her suspensories had attached themselves to her splint bones. Dr. Shoemaker filed down both splint bones, removed part of the splint bone on the right front leg and detached the suspensories from each splint bone.
For 3 weeks after the surgery Ebony was confined to a stall and hand walked 2.5 hours every day. Once the stitches healed, Ryan suggested I take Ebony to Anchor R for the Salt Water Hydrotherapy Spa. Ebony spent only two weeks at Anchor R where she went into the Spa every day. The team at Anchor R also hand walked Ebony for one hour morning and night and kept her in a large pen so she would exercise herself - with hopes that the suspensory would move enough that it would not re-attach.
After two weeks at Anchor R Ranch we headed back to Delaney Veterinary Services for a re-evaluation. The improvement that Ryan saw after just two weeks at the spa was incredible. I had been fighting with this lameness since the beginning of February, and now there was 100% improvement in the right leg and 50% in the left after just two weeks - How exciting! I would like to thank Delaney Veterinary Services for their expertise, and “Thank You” to Anchor R Ranch who went above and beyond to make such a drastic improvement in Ebony's recovery possible. To watch Ebony now, she looks 100%. She will go back for her final evaluation at Delaney Veterinary Clinic on November 24th, 2010.

JACK
A year had gone by already with the frustration of Jack tying-up. It started as a "once in a blue moon" episode, and then over time it became an "every other day" routine. Multiple "turn out" calls to rodeo associations and 10 minute rides in the arena then back to the barn was getting to be too much. It was horrible, not only for competition reasons but for emotional reasons as well.
The horse I adored and believed in the most, I could not help. Hours of research on tying-up, asking questions and trips to vets, still did not give us any solutions. Finally, after turning Jack out to pasture for two months, I took him to Moore & Company. Two tests performed, HYPP and PSSM. The waiting game for results began, until speaking with Cranna Roberts, owner of Anchor R Ranch, turned this unmanageable problem around. Purchasing her pelleted feed that she has custom made and adding a few other special ingredients to this feed was the ticket to success.
One week later I was able to compete again with no tying-up!!! It was not a week later that I found out Jack was diagnosed with Type 1 PSSM. Low carbohydrates and starches is what the vet prescribed for Jack’s diet... and Jack already was that with the Anchor R Ranch Performance Horse Feed! I thank Cranna and Anchor R Ranch for the time and effort they have put into developing this feed. It has given me the opportunity to continue barrel racing with my best companion...
Jack!!!
